More about the Strip Club

Not only is The Strip Club open and a huge hit (St. Paul police chief John Harrington had to wait 2 hours for a table last weekend like everyone else!), but starting this weekend, they will be open for brunch. And open for lunch during the week!

New Restaurant by Metro State?

I've seen this mentioned in a bunch of places over the last 2 months, but when I drove by last week I didn't seen any activity. But today it made the restaurant column of City Pages:

Tim Niver, one of the founders of the Town Talk Diner, also thinks talk of doom in St. Paul is silly: To prove it, he's planning on opening a steak-centered restaurant in the former Pop's space up by Metropolitan State University on the hill overlooking downtown St. Paul. Name? The Strip Club.

Arlington Hills Library

Big news on the Hamm's Brewery!

I got my new computer up and running, so I plan to post more often.
Big news for the East Side not covered in either of the local papers -- only in the Twin
Cities Daily Planet: they are going forward with the Asian Cultural Center in the old brewery.

The downside? We are spending $10 million for this "cultural center" but today it was reported that the Hayden Heights Library (and the Hamline-Midway branch) are on the chopping block due to City budget shortfall.

Two mentions of East Side history in the Pi Press

An article about the forthcoming book on the Seeger Company's history published by the Minnesota Historical Society "From Arcade Street to Main Street: A History of the Seeger Refrigerator Company" by James B. Bell.

There is also an article on the Phalen Park Bridge and efforts to renovate it.

East Side restaurants in print

Last week I spotted a familiar sight in an unexpected location: the Dari-ette on the cover of a magazine in the Byerly's checkout line. Pick up Metro magazine to see profiles of both the Dari-ette and Little Oven in their "Ultimate Hole-in-the-Wall guide." Unfortunately, neither of these is listed in the online version(http://www.metromag.com); you have to buy the print.
